Cosmetology
C.O.O.R. CTE Cosmetology program will be located at Roscommon Middle School and open to any local high school junior or senior. Students will work alongside professionals in a full-service, interactive salon and spa using advanced salon techniques to provide hair, nail, and skin care services; and to create artistic designs using the latest technology, trends, and brand-name products. Core skills include entrepreneurship, salon ecology, safety and electricity, general anatomy, and chemistry.
Technical skills include hair care and treatments, esthetics, nail technology, hair cutting, and hair coloring. This course uses an advanced integrated curriculum in academics, technical and workplace skills. Successful completion of the Cosmetology program allows the student to apply for State licensing exams (which require postsecondary attendance). Year 1 and Year 2 may be taken at COOR ATIC.

COS-12100 Cosmetology I - 2.5 Credits (Semester 1) This course covers orientation, career information, state laws and regulations, professional image, first aid, chemistry, electricity, job-seeking, and professional ethics. |
COS-12200 Cosmetology II - 2.5 Credits (Semester 2) This course covers health, public sanitation methods, chemical agents, types, classifications of bacterial growth, biology, infections, infection control, products, tools, equipment use and safety, bacteriology, and decontamination. |
Year 2 - Free College Credit
COS-12400 Cosmetology III - 2.5 Credits (Semester 1) This course covers the principles and techniques of wet styling, blow dry and waving, finger waving, and hairdressing. |
COS-12500 Cosmetology IV- 2.5 Credits (Semester 2) This course covers the principles and techniques of sectioning, removing length or bulk with a razor, scissors, clippers, or shears in haircutting. |
